Inducted

It's been a huge weekend at Murrays brewery with Fathers Day our biggest yet
Another momentous event was Murrays head brewer Shawn Sherlock being inducted into the Newcastle Exotic Beer Clubs hall of fame
The club is an institution in the Hunter It's membership is limited to 4 or 5 members but they hold an annual beer dinner which always see s over 100 people attend
Shawn was telling me today that the club is now in it's 8th year and when they first started the beers offered at the dinner was almost exclusively imported stuff Over the 8 years it's completely swung around and most of the beers offered up on Saturday night were pretty much all Aussie craft beers
For what it's worth Shawn is entirely worthy of any recognition he gets And he is not only a good brewer but also a great bloke

Hoppy Fathers Day !

Fathers Day tommorow and 300 people booked in for lunch at the brewery
We celebrate hoppy fathers day every year with the release of the Icon 2IPA in bottles This year our great friend Cindy is here from the USA and she has drawn the short straw of getting everyone seated and comfortable Believe it or not the biggest problem we have on big days like these is people who are not booked in stealing tables I am sure glad Cindy has to deal with that tommorow !
Hope all the Dads out there have a great day tommorow Cheers. Murray.

Wild Thing Winter

It's been a long cold Winter and and this does not help when you are trying to carbonate high alcohol beer
Our Wild Thing is coming along but it's just not there yet
This is a big big beer and it won't be rushed We are expecting a couple more weeks of waiting but it will definatly be worth it

Crown Ambassador 2010

Our head brewer Shawn decided to splurge on a bottle of Crown Ambassador 2010 this week mainly to confirm What Beer writer Willie Simpson alluded to in a recent column about it being a Brett beer
Fosters head brewer firmly denied this and blamed it on the hops
Shawn Ian and I cracked the bottle on Thursday Is it a Brett beer 100 percent yes Pretty ugly sweaty aroma but flavour not too bad
We think Willie was a bit hard on the beer But after drinking a glass we all felt like another one would be ok
That being said it's Fosters head brewer who looks pretty silly

Bad blogging, bad weather, but not all bad...

Been very slack on the blog front in the past 2 weeks but to be honest am totally depressed about this winter it's been a shocker and hopefully with spring just days away the weather is going to get a whole lot better
It's not like we haven't been busy though This last month has seen the draught release of the Angry Man Punch and Judys ale in bottle the Imperial Ipa in the tank and our first ever Ocktoberfest beer done and dusted
The Imperial ipa is going to be something to look forward to
